McLennan Softball drops pair of games at Odessa
McLennan Softball dropped both games of today's doubleheader with the Odessa Wranglers in Odessa.
Odessa took game one 13-5 in five innings with Cheyenne Floyd taking the loss in the circle.
Odessa scored two runs in the bottom of the second. Brooke Nauman singled moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Reagan Hillis. Kaya Lee then doubled to score Nauman, and Lee scored on a single by Lauren Gonzales.
McLennan responded with three runs in the top of the third. Ka'Lyn Watson led off with a triple and Caitlyn Wong drew a walk. Erin Plunkett followed wit ah three-run homer to left field.
Odessa tied the game with a run in the bottom of the third as Clarisa Zapata led off with a double, moved to third on a passed ball and scored on a sacrifice bunt by Michaella Baker.
A Jenny Robison solo home run to lead off the fourth put McLennan back on top, 4-3.
The Lady Wranglers took the 8-4 lead with five runs in the bottom of the inning. Nauman walked and Hillis doubled. Morgan Dutton also doubled, scoring Nauman and Hillis. Zapata drew a walk and Baker followed with the three-run homer.
McLennan added a run in the fifth. Wong was hit by the pitch and Plunkett walked. Robison also walked, loading the bases. Rachel Warren was also hit by the pitch, bringing Wong in to score.
Odessa sealed the run rule with five runs in the bottom of the fifth. Hillis doubled and scored on a double by Lee. Gonzales singled to score Lee, and Dutton singled. Ari Ybarra also singled, bringing Gonzales in to score. Madi Scott walked, and Kawehi Ili singled to score Dutton and Ybarra to end the game.
McLennan put three runs on the board in the top of the first. Watson singled and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Caitlin Bradley-Tse. Plunkett walked and stole second. Robison then singled to score Plunkett.
Odessa took game two 6-4 with Hailey Hudson taking the loss in the circle.
Odessa scored two in the bottom of the first. Dutton and Baker both walked. A pair of wild pitches brought Dutton in to score. Ili then doubled to score Baker.
Two more Odessa runs scored in the fourth. Gonzales singled, and Reagan Strange and Hillis both walked to load the bases. Gonzales scored on a single by Zapata, and Strange scored on a ground out by Ybarra.
Odessa added two runs in the fifth. Ili led off with a triple and Nauman walked. Ili scored on a double steal, and Nauman scored on a ground out by Taryn Terpsma.
McLennan's final run came in the top of the seventh. Maddie Saven reached on an error and moved to second on a wild pitch. Watson then singled to score Saven.
McLennan will play Otero in a noon doubleheader tomorrow in Odessa.
