McLennan Softball completes sweep of Blinn
McLennan Softball picked up a pair of run-rule victories over Blinn today to complete the four-game sweep of the Buccaneers.
Game one was a six-inning 10-2 run-rule with Matalyn Wolkow getting the win in the circle.
Blinn scored both of its runs in the second inning. Kenley Strange drew a lead-off walk but was out at second a fielder's choice by Kendall Johnson. Teagan Whitley reached on an error and Madeline Stephenson singled to load the bases. Johnson scored on a fielder's choice by Chandler Talbot. Natilee Reed then reached on an error, allowing Whitley to score.
McLennan took the lead with six runs in the fourth. Sidney Campion and Caitlin Bradley-Tse both walked and advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Ka'Lyn Watson. Caitlyn Wong was hit by the pitch, loading the bases. Erin Plunkett then singled to score Campion and Wong. Jenny Robison singled to load the bases, and Julia Herzinger followed with the grand slam.
Two more McLennan runs scored in the fifth. Bradley-Tse doubled and Watson singled. Wong singled to score Bradley-Tse, and Plunkett reached on an error to score Watson.
McLennan's sealed the run rule with two runs in the sixth. Hailey Hudson singled and Maddie Saven was safe on a dropped third strike. Rachel Warren singled to score Hudson, and Bradley-Tse walked. Watson followed with a double to score Warren and end the game.
Game two's score was also a 10-2 run-rule victory in five innings with Anissa Arredondo getting the win.
McLennan scored six runs in the bottom of the first inning to take control early. Bradley-Tse walked and scored on a double by Watson. Watson then stole third and scored on a single by Plunkett. Plunkett second and third, and Riley Rutherford was hit by the pitch. Robison walked to load the bases. Herzinger was hit by the pitch, scoring Plunkett. Jalie Neff grounded into a double play, bringing Rutherford in to score. Hudson reached on an error to score Herzinger. Saven then singled to score Hudson.
Blinn's two runs came in the second. Acie Prince singled but was out at second on a fielder's choice by Strange. Caitlyn Stevens singled, and Kayla Johnson doubled to score Strange and Stevens.
McLennan added two runs in the third. Herzinger singled, Neff walked and Hudson singled to load the bases. Herzinger scored on a sacrifice fly by Saven, and Neff scored on a single by Watson.
A walk-off two-run homer by Watson following a Bradley-Tse single in the fifth sealed the win.
McLennan travels to Athens Tuesday, to face Trinity Valley in a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
