McLennan bombards Blinn
McLennan Softball bombarded the Blinn Buccaneers this afternoon in Brenham to pick up two more run-rule wins and doubleheader sweep.
McLennan took game one 12-1 in five innings with Cheyenne Floyd getting the win in the circle.
McLennan began the scoring with two runs in the top of the first as Caitlin Bradley-Tse and Ka'Lyn Watson both singled and scored on double by Caitlyn Wong.
Two more McLennan runs scored in the second. Julia Herzinger singled and scored on a double by Hailey Hudson. Hudson then advanced to second on a ground out by Maddie Saven and scored on a single by Sidney Campion.
Blinn's only run came in the bottom of the second as Kenley Strange doubled and scored on a single by Kendall Johnson.
McLennan exploded for seven runs in the fourth inning. Hudson hit a solo home run. Saven singled and Bradley-Tse walked, both scoring on a double by Watson. Wong singled to score Watson, and Rachel Warren replaced Wong as a pinch runner. Erin Plunkett singled, and Jenny Robison singled to score Warren. Herzinger followed with a single to score Plunkett and Robison.
The final McLennan run came in the fifth. Riley Todd walked but was out at second on a fielder's choice by Watson. Wong was hit by the pitch and Plunkett singled. Robison then reached on an error, scoring Robison.
The McLennan's dominance continued into the second game as the squad shutout the Buccaneers 14-0.
Seven McLennan runs scored in the top of the first inning. Watson singled and scored on Wong's home run. Plunkett, Robison and Riley Rutherford followed with back-to-back-to-back solo home runs. Jalie Neff doubled and scored on a triple by Saven. Saven then scored on a Blinn error.
McLennan added a run in the second as Watson singled, advanced to third on a ground out by Wong and scored on a single by Plunkett.
Two more McLennan runs scored in the third. Herzinger singled and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Neff and Saven both walked, loading the bases. Warren then singled to score Herzinger, and Neff scored on a fly out by Watson.
The final four McLennan runs came in the fifth. Saven reached on an error and scored on a Watson home run. Sydney Kirby then singled and scored on a Plunkett home run.
McLennan and Blinn will complete the four-game series with a 1 p.m. doubleheader tomorrow at Bosque River Ballpark.
