McLennan Softball sweeps North Central in regular-season finale
McLennan Softball closed out the regular season with a doubleheader sweep of the North Central Lions on the road today in Gainesville.
Game one was an offensive battle with McLennan taking the 12-0 victory. Reese Taylor picked up the win in the circle.
North Central began the scoring with a run in the bottom of the first as Katie Smith singled, stole second and scored on an error.
McLennan tied the game with a Melayna Lopez home run in the top of the second.
The Lions scored a run in the bottom of the second to retake the lead. Jessie Frausto doubled and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Liz Linwood. Frausto then scored on a ground out by Annalisa Arredondo.
North Central added a run in the third. Smith singled and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Sasha Jennings. Kenzlee Zaher then singled to score Smith.
McLennan erupted for six runs in the fourth. Julia Herzinger drew a walk and Ka'Lyn Watson singled. Both runners advanced on a wild pitch. Sidney Campion walked to load the bases. Kadyn Trochim was hit by the pitch, bringing Herzinger in to score. Rosemary Rivera followed with a single to score Watson. A sacrifice fly by Lindsey Evans brought Campion in to score. Bailey Krolczyk followed with a two-run homer.
North Central responded with four runs in the bottom of the fourth. Linwood doubled and scored on a single by Alexia Perkkio. Smith doubled and Perkkio scored on a single by Jennings. Smith then scored on a sacrifice fly by Zaher, and Jennings scored on a single by Heather Hoffman to tie the game at seven.
McLennan took the lead with three runs in the sixth. Rivera drew a lead-off walk, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Evans and scored on a single by Caitlyn Wong. Lopez followed with a two-run homer.
Two more McLennan runs scored in the seventh. Trochim singled but was out at second on a fielder's choice by Rivera. Evans followed with a double to score Rivera. Krolczyk then singled to score Evans.
North Central rounded out the scoring with three runs in the bottom of the seventh. Hoffman and Rios both singled and scored on a double by Frausto. Aubrey Dolezalik replaced Frausto as the runner at second. Linwood singled and Dolezalik scored on a single by Perkkio.
Anissa Arredondo picked up the complete-game victory in the circle as McLennan defeated North Central 7-1 in the nightcap.
McLennan got on the board with a run in the second as Mackenzie Adams doubled and scored on a single by Rivera.
Three McLennan runs scored in the third. Wong doubled and scored on an error that put Krolczyk on second. Herzinger followed with a two-run homer.
The final three McLennan runs came in the top of the fourth. Rivera and Evans both hit solo home runs. Lopez walked, advanced to second a wild pitch and moved to third on a passed ball. Krolczyk then singled to score Lopez.
North Central's only run came in the bottom of the seventh as Alyssa Rios doubled, moved to third on a single by Kelsea Armstrong and scored on a sacrifice fly by Jessica Grimes.
McLennan will compete in the Region V North Tournament beginning Thursday at Grayson College.
