McLennan & Blinn split on softball diamond
McLennan and Blinn split today's softball doubleheader in Brenham.
The Blinn Buccaneers came from behind to defeat McLennan 5-4 in the opener with Cheyenne Floyd taking the loss in the circle.
Blinn got on the board with a run in the bottom of the third. Amy Hitt drew a lead off walk and moved to second on a ground out by Italie Speziale-Potter. Chloe Woodward then reached on an error, scoring Hitt.
The Buccaneers added a run in the fourth. Renna Toomey doubled, Mikaela Lopez walked and Hitt singled to load the bases. Speziale-Potter then singled to score Toomey.
McLennan took the lead with four runs in the fifth. Kadyn Trochim doubled, Rosemary Rivera singled and Genesis Rodriguez singled, loading the bases. Lindsey Evans followed with a grand slam.
Blinn scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh to steal the win. Keely Castillo led off with a double and Toomey walked. Both runners advanced on a ground out by Samantha Rodriguez. Castillo scored on a ground out by Lopez. Hitt then reached on an error, scoring Toomey and tying the game at four. Speziale-Potter singled and Hitt was replaced by pinch runner Bailee Stanzione. Woodward singled to Stanzione and win the game.
McLennan bounced back to defeat Blinn 12-7 in eight innings of game two with Reese Taylor picking up the win.
McLennan scored a run in the top of the first. Melayna Lopez singled and Caitlyn Wong reached on an error. Both runners advanced on a wild pitch. Ka'Lyn Watson then singled to score Lopez.
Blinn responded with three runs in the bottom of the inning. Woodward and Sanders both singled and advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Murphy. Castillo then doubled to score Woodward and Sanders. Castillo advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on a double by Rodriguez.
McLennan added four runs in the third. Lopez walked and Wong singled. Julia Herzinger reached on an error, loading the bases. Watson followed with a single to score Lopez. A fielder's choice by Bailey Krolczyk scored Wong and put Watson out at second. Mackenzie Adams then singled to score Herzinger, and Krolczyk scored on an error.
Blinn tied the game with two runs in the bottom of the fourth. Rodriguez walked and Lopez was hit by the pitch. Reed singled to load the bases. Johnson followed with a fielder's choice, scoring Rodriguez. Lopez then scored on a sacrifice fly by Woodward.
McLennan took the lead again with two runs in the sixth. Kenzie Chambers singled and scored on a double by Lopez. Wong then tripled to score Lopez.
Blinn tied the game with two runs in the bottom of the seventh. Woodward. Murphy and Castillo all singled, loading the bases. Rodriguez singled to score Woodward, and Murphy scored on a fielder's choice by Lopez.
McLennan sealed the win with five runs in the top of the eighth. Rivera was hit by the pitch to lead off the inning. Chambers and Evans both singled, loading the bases. Lopez followed with a grand slam. Wong drew a walk and was replaced by Rodriguez. Rodriguez then advanced to second on a wild pitch and scored on a triple by Watson.
