McLennan sweeps North Central in home finale
McLennan Softball swept the North Central Lady Lions this afternoon in the squad's final home doubleheader of the season.
McLennan defeated North Central 8-2 in the opener with Reese Taylor getting the complete-game win in the circle.
McLennan jumped out to the early lead with three runs in the bottom of the first. Lindsey Evans led off with a triple and scored on a North Central error. Melayna Lopez doubled and scored on a single by Caitlyn Wong. Bailey Krolczyk and Ka'Lyn Watson both walked, loading the bases. Wong then scored on a sacrifice fly by Sidney Campion.
Both of North Centrals runs came in the top of the third. Katie Smith singled and advanced to third as Sasha Jennings reached on an error. Smith then scored on a wild pitch, and Jennings also scored on another error.
Two McLennan runs scored in the bottom of the third. Julia Herzinger was hit by the pitch, stole second and scored on a single by Watson. Watson then scored on a North Central error.
McLennan added a run in the fourth as Rosemary Rivera singled, advanced to third on a double by Lopez and scored on a sacrifice fly by Wong.
Back-to-back home runs by Lopez and Wong in the bottom of the sixth rounded out the scoring.
McLennan defeated North Central 6-4 in game two with Anissa Arredondo picking up the win.
McLennan scored a run in the bottom of the first as Evans walked, stole second, advanced to third on a ground out by Wong and scored on a double by Krolczyk.
Another McLennan run scored in the second as Watson singled, stole second and scored on a single by Kadyn Trochim.
McLennan extended its lead with a run in the third as Evans led off with a triple and scored on a ground out by Wong.
North Central took the lead with four runs in the top of the fifth. Aubrey Dolezalik was hit by the pitch and Alexia Perkkio walked. Jennings singled, loading the bases. Kenzlee Zaher followed with a double to score Dolezalik and Perkkio, and Jennings scored on a sacrifice fly by Alyssa Rios. Jessie Frausto then singled to score Zaher.
McLennan scored three runs in the sixth to seal the win. Wong was hit by the pitch and replaced by pinch runner Kenzie Chambers. Chambers then stole second, and Krolczyk walked, both advancing on a wild pitch. Chambers scored on a sacrifice fly by Herzinger, and Krolczyk scored on an error. Watson then walked and scored on a double by Campion.
McLennan will complete the regular season with a noon doubleheader Saturday in Gainesville. The Region V Tournament will begin May 6 at Grayson College in Sherman.
