McLennan & LSU-Eunice split softball doubleheader
McLennan and LSU-Eunice split today's softball doubleheader in Louisiana.
LSU-Eunice got the 10-5 win in the opener with Anissa Arredondo taking the loss on the mound.
The Bengals began the scoring with two runs in the bottom of the first as Maddie Leal and Olivia Hennen both walked and scored on a double by Karli Fontenot.
McLennan tied the game with two runs in the top of the second. Ka'Lyn Watson led off with a solo home run. Mackenzie Adams singled and Sidney Campion walked. Both runners advanced on a ground out by Kadyn Trochim. Kenzie Chambers then reached on an error, bringing Adams and Campion in to score.
LSU-Eunice added two runs in the bottom of the second to retake the lead. Katelyn Courville was hit by the pitch, Kennedy Smith singled and Leal walked to load the bases. Courville and Smith scored on a pair of wild pitches.
A two-run homer by Trochim following a Campion walk tied the game at four in the top of the fourth.
The Bengals took the lead with four runs in the bottom of the fourth. Sydnei Simon singled and scored on a single by Hennen. Gracie King followed with a two-run homer. Fontenot then doubled and scored on a single by Ashlyn Roach.
Another LSU-Eunice run scored with Hennen's home run in the bottom of the fifth.
The Bengals final run came in the bottom of the sixth as Rylie Candella doubled and scored on a double by Courville.
Watson's solo home run for McLennan in the top of the seventh rounded out the scoring.
McLennan bounced back to defeat LSU-Eunice 11-4 in the second game with Haven Stanley getting the win in the circle and Reese Taylor getting the save.
McLennan jumped out to an early lead with four runs in the top of the first. Chambers drew a leadoff walk and Bailey Krolczyk singled. Both runners advanced on the double steal. Caitlyn Wong followed with a sacrifice fly to score Chambers, and Krolczyk scored on a sacrifice fly by Lindsey Evans. Watson and Julia Herzinger followed with back-to-back solo home runs.
LSU-Eunice scored one run in the bottom of the first. Simon drew a lead-off walk but was out at second on a fielder's choice by Leal. Hennen singled and King walked, loading the bases. Candella then walked to score Leal.
McLennan added five runs in the third. Watson walked and scored on double by Julia Herzinger. Melayna Lopez then doubled to score Herzinger. Trochim singled and Lopez scored on a double steal. Rosemary Rivera was hit by the pitch and Chambers walked to load the bases. Trochim was out at third on a line-drive double play by Krolczyk. Wong walked and Evans singled to score Rivera.
The Bengals added three runs in the bottom of the fourth. Candella and Roach hit back-to-back home runs. Smith then tripled and scored on a single by Hennen.
Two McLennan runs scored in the seventh as Rivera walked and scored on a Krolczyk home run.
McLennan returns to conference play Wednesday, hosting Weatherford for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
