McLennan Softball sweeps Alvin on the road
The McLennan Softball squad improved its record to 26-12 on the season with a pair of run-rule victories over the Alvin Dolphins in Alvin.
McLennan defeated Alvin 9-1 in five innings of game one with Reese Taylor getting the win in the circle.
McLennan scored five runs in the top of the first inning. Genesis Rodriguez drew a lead-off walk, Melayna Lopez singled and Caitlyn Wong walked, loading the bases. A fielder's choice by Evans put Rodriguez out at the plate. Julia Herzinger followed with a double to score Lope, Wong and Evans. Sidney Campion followed with a two run-homer.
Two more McLennan runs scored in the third. Herzinger and Ka'Lyn Watson both singled. Herzinger scored on a double-play ground out Campion. Kadyn Trochim walked and Rosemary Rivera singled. Trochim then scored on an Alvin error.
Alvin's only run came in the bottom of the third. Maritza Elizalde walked and was replaced by pinch runner Elizabeth Higgins. Higgins was out at second on a fielder's choice by Brianna Garcia. Both runners were safe on a Mikaela Hinojosa fielder's choice. Maya Williamson then singled to score Garcia.
McLennan secured the run rule with two runs in the top of the fifth. Watson singled, stole second, moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on a triple by Campion. Campion then scored on a sacrifice bunt by Trochim.
Game two was another run-rule affair with McLennan defeating the Dolphins 10-1 in five innings. Anissa Arredondo got the win in the circle.
Alvin began the scoring with a run in the bottom of the first as Madison Ahart doubled and scored on a single by Kaylee Tarlton.
McLennan exploded for eight runs in the third. Taylor doubled and was safe at third on a fielder's choice by Evans. Lopez singled to score Taylor, and Wong doubled to score Evans and Lopez. Herzinger walked and scored on a Watson home run. Campion singled and scored on a Taylor double. Rivera drew a walk and Evans singled to score Taylor.
Two more McLennan runs scored in the fourth. Watson singled and scored on a Campion triple. Campion then scored on a ground out by Mackenzie Adams.
McLennan travels to Eunice, Louisiana, Friday for a four-game series with the LSU-Eunice Bengals Friday & Saturday.
