McLennan Softball sweeps Hill on the road
McLennan Softball picked up another conference doubleheader sweep with a pair of victories on the road today in Hillsboro.
McLennan took game one 6-5 in nine innings with Kaitlyn Sadler getting the win in the circle.
McLennan began the scoring with two runs in the top of the third. Rosemary Rivera walked and Kenzie Chambers singled, both advancing on a Hill error. Melayna Lopez then grounded out to score Rivera, and Chambers scored on a sacrifice fly by Caitlyn Wong.
Hill tied the game with two runs in the bottom of the sixth. Kaylie Burdine and Lindsey Ratcliffe both reached on errors. Burdine was replaced by pinch runner Allie Wheeler. Wheeler was out at home on a fielder's choice by Hannah Spring. Ellena Munoz then doubled to score Ratcliffe and Spring.
McLennan took the lead with two runs in the top of the seventh. Wong doubled and was replaced by pinch runner Ka'Lyn Watson. Lindsey Evans followed with a two-run homer.
Hill tied the game again with two runs in the bottom of the seventh as Shelby Pelton singled and scored on a Wheeler homer.
Two more McLennan runs scored in the top of the ninth as Wong singled and scored on another Evans home run.
Hill rounded out the scoring with a run in the bottom of the ninth as Ratcliffe singled and scored on a double by Spring.
McLennan completed the sweep with an 8-2 victory in game two with Gracy Crafts picking up the win.
Hill scored one run in the bottom of the second as Yasmine Rivera and Bridgette Montes both singled. Spring then singled to score Rivera.
McLennan took the lead with three runs in the fourth. Chambers singled and scored on a double by Watson. Watson then stole third and scored on a ground out by Wong. Evans singled and advanced to third on an error. Julia Herzinger then grounded out to score Evans.
Hill added a run with Montes' solo home run to lead off the bottom of the fourth.
McLennan scored three runs in the sixth. Watson walked and Wong singled. Evans followed with the three-run homer.
Two McLennan runs in the seventh rounded out the scoring. Chambers singled, stole second and scored on a single by Wong. Sidney Campion replaced Wong as the runner at first. Evans then tripled to score Campion.
The two teams will complete the four-game series with a noon doubleheader Friday at Bosque River Ballpark.
