McLennan Softball gets series sweep of Ranger
McLennan Softball completed the four-game sweep of Ranger with a pair of run-rule victories today on the road.
McLennan defeated Ranger 16-4 in five innings of the opening game with Reese Taylor getting the win on the mound.
McLennan scored six in the top of the first. Kenzie Chambers singled and Caitlyn Wong walked. Chambers came in to score on a Ranger error, and Wong scored on a single by Lindsey Evans. Sidney Campion singled and Julia Herzinger walked to load the bases. Genesis Rodriguez followed with a single to score Evans. Campion was out at the plate on fielder's choice by Kadyn Trochim. Rosemary Rivera walked to score Herzinger, and Chambers walked to score Rodriguez. Melayna Lopez then singled to score Trochim.
Four more McLennan runs scored in the second. Campion tripled and score on Herzinger's home run. Trochim then doubled and scored on a Rivera home run.
Ranger got on the board with a run in the bottom of the second. Victoria Palomares walked and was replace by pinch runner Jayda Justice. Everly Carey singled but was out at second on a fielder's choice by Hanna Roye. Justice then stole home.
Campion homered in the third to give McLennan the 11-1 lead.
The Lady Rangers added a run in the third. Emma Clark, Cherish Gonzalez and Mariah Mayuga all singled to load the bases. Clark then scored on a fly out by Monique Montes.
McLennan tacked on four runs in the fourth. Trochim led off with a solo home run. Rivera was hit by the pitch and McKenzie Adams walked. Wong followed with a three-run homer.
Ranger's final two runs came in the bottom of the fourth. Kelley Taff singled and Clark was hit by the pitch. Gonzalez reached on an error, loading the bases. Mayuga then doubled to score Taff and Clark.
The final McLennan run came in the top of the fifth. Herzinger singled but was out at second on a fielder's choice by Rodriguez. Rivera then singled to score Rodriguez.
McLennan took game two 11-1 in five innings with Cheyenne Floyd in the circle
Campion's solo home run to lead off the game began the scoring.
McLennan exploded for eight runs in the second. Adams walked but was out at second on a fielder's choice by Herzinger. Ka'Lyn Watson singled and Trochim walked. Rivera followed with a single to score Herzinger. Lopez singled to score Watson, Trochim and Rivera. Lopez then scored on an error and Wong walked. Evans followed with a two-run homer.
Herzinger added a home run in the third to make it 9-0 McLennan.
Two more McLennan runs scored in the fourth as Wong walked and scored on an Evans home run.
Ranger's run in the bottom of the fourth rounded out the scoring. Mayuga, Montes and Macie Reeves all singled. Mayuga then scored on a fielder's choice by Palomares.
McLennan continues conference play Wednesday, traveling to Hillsboro for a 1 p.m. conference game at Hill.
