McLennan Softball sweeps Temple to win series
The McLennan Softball squad swept the Temple Lady Leopards this afternoon at Bosque River Ballpark win the conference series 3-1.
McLennan got the 11-3 run-rule victory in game one with Gracy Crafts getting the win and Kaitlyn Sadler picking up the save.
Temple began the scoring with a fin in the top of the first as Biviana Figueroa doubled, moved to third on a passed ball and scored on a single by Kristen Boyd.
McLennan responded with three runs in the bottom of the inning. Lindsey Evans singled and Bailey Krolczyk drew a walk. Caitlyn Wong followed with a single to score Evans. Sidney Campion walked, and Melayna Lopez singled to score Krolczyk. Ka'Lyn Watson followed with a single to score Wong.
Three more McLennan runs scored in the second. Rosemary Rivera led off with a solo home run. Evans singled and Krolczyk walked, both advanced on a wild pitch and scored on a double by Wong.
Temple added two runs in the third as Daeghan Drgac walked on scored on a Madi Garza home run.
McLennan tacked on four runs in the bottom of the third. Kadyn Trochim walked and Evans doubled Krolczyk then singled to score Trochim and Evans. Wong followed with a two-run homer.
A run in the bottom of the fifth secured the run rule for McLennan. Wong and Campion both walked, and Lopez was hit by the pitch to load the bases. Watson singled to score Lopez and seal the win.
McLennan came from behind to defeat Temple 9-8 with a walk off RBIs single by Watson in the finale. Haven Stanley picked up the win in the circle.
McLennan scored two in the second as Watson walked and score on a Rivera home run.
Temple took the lead with three runs in the third. Yaya Jones reached first and advanced to second on an error. A.J. Jasso singled and Jones scored on a ground out by Figueroa. Garza then singled to score Jasso, and Boyd singled to score Garza.
Wong's single home run in the bottom of the third tied the game at three.
The Lady Leopard exploded for five runs in the fifth. Madalynn Gonzales walked and was replaced by pinch runner Brianna Longoria. Longoria stole second and scored on a single by Jasso. Allison Boles followed with a double to score Jasso. Both runners were safe on a fielder's choice by Garza. Shaylann Grace followed with a three-run homer.
McLennan began its comeback with three runs in the bottom of the fifth. Campion reached on an error and scored on Watson's home run. Trochim doubled, Rivera walked and Kenzie Chambers singled to load the bases. Evans then singled to score Trochim.
Three runs in the bottom of the seventh sealed the McLennan win. Chambers triple and scored on a single by Evans. Lopez walked and Wong singled. Evans scored on a Temple error and Campion walked. Watson then singled to score Lopez and end the game.
McLennan continues conference play Wednesday, traveling to Cisco for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
