McLennan Softball picks up second sweep in as many days
McLennan Softball picked up its second conference doubleheader sweep of the week with a pair of victories over the Hill Lady Rebels this afternoon in Hillsboro.
McLennan defeated Hill 11-3 in the opener. Reese Taylor got the win in the circle and Nikki Ramirez picked up the save.
Hill began the scoring with a run in the bottom of the second. Hailee Carroll was hit by the pitch and Jennifer Stanley singled. Alli Humphries drew a walk, loading the bases. Kaitlynn De La Fuente followed with a fielder's choice bringing Carroll in to score.
McLennan tied the game with Sophie Wideman's solo home run in the top of the fourth.
The Lady Rebels added two runs in the bottom of the fourth to take the lead. Stanley led off with a home run. De La Fuente and Eryn Carter both singled and advanced on a McLennan error. Kristin Guiterrez followed with a sacrifice fly to score De La Fuente.
Three runs in the fifth gave McLennan the lead. Kadyn Trochim and Rebecca Fajardo both singled and advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Cydney DeLeon. Arianna Perales then doubled to score Trochim and Fajardo. Wideman followed with a single to score Perales.
McLennan added a run in the sixth as Trochim walked and scored on a double by Fajardo.
Six McLennan runs in the top of the seventh rounded out the scoring. Wideman led off with another home run. Rebekah Parks doubled and scored on a double by Lindsey Evans. Melayna Lopez then doubled to score Evans. Lopez advanced to third on an error and Jessika Truax followed with a two-run homer. DeLeon and Perales both singled. Wideman then singled to score DeLeon.
McLennan got a 14-4 run-rule victory over Hill in game two with Ramirez getting the win.
Three runs in the top of the first gave McLennan the early lead. Perales singled and moved to second on a ground out by Wideman, and Parks was hit by the pitch. Evans followed with a double to score Perales and Parks. Lopez then reached on an error, bringing Evans in to score.
McLennan added four runs in the top of the second. Trochim singled and Fajardo walked, both scoring on a double by DeLeon. DeLeon advanced to third on an error and scored on a single by Perales. Perales then advanced to second on an error and scored on a single by Parks.
All four of Hill's runs came in the bottom of the second. Alex Rodriguez, Shelby Kuffel and Carter all waked, loading the bases. Rodriguez scored on a wild pitch and Guiterrez singled to score Kuffel. Shelby Pelton walked and a fielder's choice by Shelby Mitchell brought Carter in to score. Carroll then singled to score Guiterrez.
Five more McLennan runs scored in the top of the third. Madeline Stephens singled and scored on Fajardo's two-run homer. DeLeon singled and Perales was hit by the pitch. Wideman followed with a three-run homer, her third home run of the day.
McLennan's final two runs came in the top of the fifth. Perales led off with a double. Wideman and Parks drew back-to-back walks to load the bases. Perales scored on a passed ball and Lopez doubled to score Wideman.
