McLennan Softball drops two games at Vernon
McLennan Softball fell in both games of today's conference doubleheader with the Vernon Lady Chaparrals in Vernon.
Vernon came from behind to defeat McLennan 7-6 in game one with Reese Taylor taking the loss in the circle.
McLennan began the scoring with a Melayna Lopez home run in the top of the second.
Another McLennan run scored in the top of the third as Cydney DeLeon doubled, moved to third on a fly out by Arianna Perales and scored on an error.
Vernon got on the board with a run in the bottom of the fourth. Adrianna Cooney reached safely and moved to second on an error. Pal Egan followed with a ground out, moving Cooney to third. Cooney then scored on a single by Kyla Snow.
McLennan added four runs in the fifth. Rebeca Fajardo walked and stole second. DeLeon followed with a single, and Perales singled to score Fajardo. DeLeon stole home, and Rebekah Parks followed with a two-run homer.
Vernon scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth. Egan singled and Snow walked. Alexis Hoang followed with a three-run homer.
The Lady Chaparrals scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh to steal the win. Stonie Carrillo and Cooney both singled. Egan then singled to score Carrillo. Cooney scored on an error, tying the game. Jaleigh Durst singled and Chloe Bryant walked, loading the bases. Peyton Picou then singled to score Egan.
Vernon defeated McLennan 2-0 in the nightcap with Gracy Crafts taking the loss.
Both of Vernon's runs came in the bottom of the seventh as Hoang doubled and scored on Kaila Eastburn's home run.
McLennan continues conference play Wednesday, hosting Temple for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
