McLennan Softball sweeps Weatherford
The McLennan Softball swept the Weatherford Coyotes in conference play today at Bosque River Ballpark.
McLennan narrowly defeated Weatherford 4-3 in the opening game with Reese Taylor getting the win in the circle.
Weatherford began the scoring with a run in the top of the first as Kristen Kammick doubled and scored on a single by Stephanie Jimenez.
McLennan tied the game with a run in the bottom of the first as Sophie Wideman singled and scored on a double by Arianna Perales.
Weatherford took the lead with a run in the fourth. Pyra Burns doubled and Shelby Everhart drew a walk. Aubree Beggs followed with a fielder's choice and all runners were safe. Mackenzie Egan then singled to score Burns.
McLennan tied the game again with a run in the bottom of the fourth. Rebekah Parks singled and moved to second on a sacrifice fly by Jessika Truax. Rebeca Fajardo singled and Parks scored on a fly out by Cydney DeLeon.
Two runs in the fifth gave McLennan the lead. Wideman walked and was replaced by pinch runner Jasmine Garcia. Garcia moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Perales, and Evans singled. Evans and Garcia then scored on a wild pitch.
A Jimenez home run for Weatherford in the top of the seventh rounded out the scoring.
McLennan defeated Weatherford 11-7 in the nightcap with Gracy Crafts getting the win and Nikki Ramirez picking up the save.
Kammick put Weatherford on the board with a home run in the first inning.
McLennan responded with three runs in the bottom of the first. Wideman singled, Evans was hit by the pitch and Truax walked to load the bases. Madeline Stephens was also hit by the pitch, bringing Wideman in to score. Melayna Lopez then singled to score Evans and Truax.
McLennan added a run in the second. DeLeon walked and Perales was hit by the pitch. Wideman followed with a fielder's choice putting DeLeon out at third. Evans then singled to score Perales.
Two more McLennan runs scored in the third. Stephens singled and Lopez was hit by the pitch. Fajardo singled to load the bases. Genesis Rodriguez followed with a fielder's choice, putting Stephens out at the plate. DeLeon then singled to score Lopez and Fajardo.
Weatherford added four runs in the fourth. Jimenez led off with a home run. Marcie Moss was safe on an error and Burns singled; both runners advanced on a wild pitch. Raegan Ferguson then singled to score Moss. Sydney Everhart reached on an error to load the bases. Kailyne Luna then doubled to score Burns and Ferguson.
McLennan also scored four runs in the fourth. Truax singled, Stephens walked and Lopez was safe on fielder's choice. Fajardo followed with a grand slam.
Weatherford added a run in the fifth as Jimenez walked, moved to second on a single by Moss and scored on a double by Burns.
McLennan's final run came in the in the bottom of the fifth as Perales doubled and scored on a single by Wideman.
Weatherford rounded out the scoring with a run in the top of the sixth. Egan and Jimenez both walked, both advancing on a wild pitch. Egan then scored on a sacrifice fly by Moss.
McLennan will travel to Corsicana to face Navarro in a non-conference doubleheader Wednesday at noon.
