McLennan Softball sweeps Cisco
The McLennan Softball team opened conference play with a doubleheader sweep of the Cisco Lady Wranglers on the road in Cisco.
McLennan needed an extra inning to defeat Cisco 10-7 in the opener with Nikki Ramirez getting the win in the circle.
McLennan began the scoring with a run in the top of the first as Cydney DeLeon singled, stole second and scored on a single by Sophie Wideman.
Two more McLennan runs scored in the third. Melayna Lopez walked, stole second and scored on a triple by DeLeon. Wideman followed with a sacrifice fly to score DeLeon.
Cisco tied the game with three runs in the bottom off the fourth. Sara Papizan singled and was replaced at first by pinch runner Aracely Ortiz. Ortiz stole second and scored on a single by Ileana Ortega. Ashley Vinton and Lauren Guerrero both reached safely on an error, allowing Ortega and Vinton to score.
McLennan scored two runs in the top of the fifth to retake the lead as Lopez walked and scored on DeLeon's home run.
Cisco added a run with Lauren Aleman's solo home run in the fifth.
The Lady Wranglers scored two in the sixth to take the lead. Vinton doubled and moved to third on a passed ball. Guerrero followed with a single to score Vinton. Guerrero advanced to third on a ground out by Yamilex Valdez and scored on a double by Aleman.
McLennan tied the game with a run in the top of the seventh. DeLeon, Arianna Perales and Wideman all singled. Lindsey Evans followed with a fielder's choice to score DeLeon.
Four McLennan runs scored in the top of the eighth. Kadyn Trochim singled and moved to second on a passed ball. Rebeca Fajardo reached on an error, and Lopez singled to score Trochim. Lopez stole second and Perales drew a walk. Wideman then doubled to score Fajardo, Lopez and Perales.
Cisco rounded out the scoring with a run in the bottom of the eighth. Vinton led off with a double. Valdez then doubled to score Vinton.
It was all McLennan in the nightcap as they shutout the Lady Wranglers 14-0. Gracy Crafts got the win in the circle, pitching a five-inning ho-hitter.
McLennan scored four runs in the top of the second inning. Jessika Truax reached on an error and Madeline Stephens drew a walk. Both runners advanced on a ground out by Lopez. Fajardo walked to load the bases. Rodriguez then walked to score Truax. DeLeon followed with a fielder's choice, putting Stephens out at the plate. Perales then doubled to clear the bases.
Six more McLennan runs scored in the third. Evans and Truax both walked and stole bases. A fielder's choice by Stephens scored Evans. Lopez then grounded out to score Truax. Fajardo then doubled to score Stephens. DeLeon and Perales both singled, scoring Fajardo. DeLeon then scored on an error, and Perales scored on a single by Wideman.
McLennan added a run in the fourth as Truax doubled, moved to third on a ground out by Stephens and scored on a single by Lopez.
The final three runs came in the top of the fifth. Wideman hit a solo home run. Evans was hit by the pitch and moved to second on a ground out by Truax. Stephens followed with a single to score Evans. Trochim and Rebekah Parks both singled, bringing Stephens around to score.
McLennan continues conference play Saturday, hosting Weatherford for a noon doubleheader.
