McLennan Softball closes out weekend with Navarro sweep
The McLennan Softball team moved improved to 11-2 on the season with a doubleheader sweep of the Navarro Lady Bulldogs this afternoon at Bosque River Ballpark.
McLennan defeated Navarro 8-4 in the opener with Gracy Crafts getting the win in the circle.
McLennan scored a run in the bottom of the first as Sophie Wideman drew a walk and scored on a double by Arianna Perales.
Another McLennan run scored in the third as Kadyn Trochim singled and scored on a Wideman double.
Navarro got on the board with a run in the fourth as Alanna Islas walked, stole second and scored on a single by Bayja Newby.
McLennan extended the lead with three runs in the bottom of the inning. Lindsey Evans walked and Reese Taylor singled. Rebeca Fajardo followed with a three-run homer.
The Lady Bulldogs added a run with a Faith Fernandez home run in the fifth.
Two more Navarro runs scored in the sixth as Newby doubled and scored on another Fernandez home run.
McLennan rounded out the scoring with three runs in the bottom of the sixth. Evans singled and Taylor was safe on an error. Rebekah Parks walked to load the bases. Evans scored on a sacrifice fly by Fajardo, and Taylor scored on a sacrifice bunt by DeLeon. Trochim then singled to score Parks.
McLennan dominated the second game, picking up a 9-1 run-rule win. Nikki Ramirez got the win in the circle and Reese Taylor picked up the save.
The first McLennan run came in the bottom of the first as Trochim singled, moved to second on a passed ball and scored on a single by Perales.
McLennan added a run in the second as Genesis Rodriguez walked, stole second and scored on a single by DeLeon.
Navarro's only run came in the top of the third as Jenna Rude doubled and scored on a single by Fernandez.
In the bottom of the fourth, McLennan added another run. Madeline Stephens singled and move to second on a sacrifice bunt by Fajardo. Rodriguez walked and DeLeon was hit by the pitch to load the bases. Trochim followed with a sacrifice fly to score Stephens.
McLennan broke the game open with five runs in the fifth. Perales walked and Jessika Truax singled. Evans followed with a three-run homer. Stephens singled and Fajardo walked. Rodriguez followed with a fielder's choice, putting Stephens out at third. Trochim then reached on an error, allowing Fajardo and Rodriguez to score.
The final run came in the bottom of the sixth. Parks and Stephens both singled, and Fajardo walked to load the bases. Melayna Lopez then drew a walk to score Parks and end the game.
McLennan returns to action Tuesday, hosting Blinn for a noon doubleheader.
