McLennan Softball picks up pair of run-rule victories to open 2020
McLennan Softball opened the 2020 season today with a pair of run-rule victories at the Chipola Invitational in Youngsville, Louisiana.
McLennan opened the day with a 16-8 win over the Snead State Parsons.
Snead State scored three runs in the top of the first inning. Hannah Pritchett drew a lead-off walk and Skylar Tucker reached on an error, both scoring on a McLennan error. Ashleigh Reaves then singled and scored on a double by Alli Reno.
McLennan took the lead with four runs in the bottom of the inning. Cydney DeLeon led off with a triple, and Arianna Perales walked. DeLeon then stole home. Perales stole around to third and scored on a single by Jessika Truax. Sophie Wideman was hit by the pitch and was replaced by pinch runner Jasmine Garcia. Kadyn Trochim then reached on an error, bringing Truax and Garcia in to score.
The Parsons tied the game with a run in the top of the second. Presley Whitten walked and Pritchett reached on an error. Tucker then grounded out to score Whitten.
Three more Snead State runs scored in the third. Reno singled and Shelby Payne doubled, both scoring on Payton Davidson's three-run homer.
McLennan added a run with Truax's home run in the bottom of the third.
Three more McLennan runs scored in the fourth. Rebeca Fajardo led off with a home run and DeLeon doubled. Lindsey Evans walked and DeLeon stole home. Truax also walked, and Maddie Stephens singled to score Evans.
McLennan tacked on three runs in the fifth. DeLeon doubled and stole third, and Perales walked. Evans followed with a double, scoring DeLeon and Perales. Bekah Parks then singled to score Evans.
Snead State's final run came in the top of the sixth as Payne doubled, moved to third on a ground out by Davidson and scored on a sacrifice fly by Courtney Baine.
McLennan sealed the run rule with five runs in the bottom of the sixth. Stephens singled but was out at second on a fielder's choice by Melayna Lopez. Reese Taylor walked and was replaced by Katie Rose. Both runners advanced on a passed ball. A fielder's choice by DeLeon brought Lopez in to score, and Rose scored on an error. Perales then singled to score DeLeon. Evans followed with a walk-off two-run homer.
In the later game, McLennan run-rule the LSU Eunice Bengals 11-3.
McLennan began the scoring with five runs in the top of the first. DeLeon and Perales hit back-to-back doubles, and Wideman followed with a three-run homer. Evans then singled and scored on Parks' two-run homer.
LSU Eunice scored a run in the bottom of the first. Jordie Wilhite walked and stole second but was out at home on a fielder's choice by Olivia Hennen. Hennen then scored on a McLennan error.
McLennan scored five more runs in the top of the fourth. Rose doubled and moved to third on an error. Genesis Rodriguez followed with a single to score Rose. Rodriguez then moved to second on an error and scored on a double by Perales. Wideman followed with a two-run homer. Evans then tripled and scored on single by Parks.
The Bengals added a run in the bottom of the sixth. Sydnei Simon and Gracie King both singled, and Morgan Harlow reached on an error to load the bases. Kennedy Smith then singled to score Simon.
LSU Eunice's final run came with Riley Candella's home run in the fifth.
McLennan rounded out the scoring with Evans' home run in the top of the sixth.
McLennan will continue tournament play against Lake Land tomorrow at 11 a.m. followed by Odessa at 1:30 p.m.
