McLennan Softball drops games at Vernon
The McLennan Softball dropped two one-run games on the road today to the Vernon Lady Chaparrals.
Vernon took game one, 2-1, with Emily Klanika taking the loss for McLennan.
The Highlassies took the early lead with a run in the top of the fifth as Kaelin Morkisch singled, advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Olivia Lantigua and scored on a double by Kaitlin Richards.
The Lady Chaparrals' winning runs came in the bottom of the fifth. Ashley Simonds was safe at first and moved to second on a McLennan error. Simonds then stole third and scored on a single by Peyton Picou.
Vernon came from behind to steal game two, 7-6, with Destiny Guerra taking the loss.
The Lady Chaparrals scored two runs in the bottom of the first. Stonie Carrillo singled and moved to second on a ground out by Courtney Vidrine. Aariyana Egan then singled to score Carrillo. Egan then stole second and scored on a McLennan error.
McLennan took the lead with six runs in the top of the third inning. Lindy Alexander and Morkisch both singled and scored on a double by Lantigua. Richards and Arianna Perales both singled, bringing Lantigua in to score. Emeri Eubanks then singled to score Richards, and Perales scored on a single by Sophie Wideman. Alexander followed with a single to score Eubanks.
Vernon added two runs in the fourth as Cayleigh England singled and scored on Alexis Hoang's home run.
The Lady Chaparrals tied the game with two runs in the fifth. Carrillo led off with a double, advanced to third on a fly out by Vidrine and scored on a single by Egan. Egan then stole second and scored on a single by England.
Vernon stole the win with Hoang's walk-off home run in the bottom of the seventh.
McLennan returns to action Monday, traveling to Grayson for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
