McLennan Softball sweeps Cisco
McLennan Softball swept the Cisco Lady Wranglers with a pair of one-run wins this afternoon at Bosque River Ballpark.
McLennan defeated Cisco 7-6 in the opener with Emily Klanika getting the win and Carla Torres picking up the save.
The Highlassies began the scoring with a run in the bottom of the first as Kaelin Morkisch walked, stole second, moved to third on a ground out by Arianna Perales and scored on a double by Kaitlin Richards.
McLennan added two runs in the second. Olivia Lantigua led off with a single but was out on fielder's choice by Lindy Alexander. Brooke Arnold drew a walk and Charley Avery singled to load the bases. Morkisch reached on an error, allowing Alexander to score. Arnold then scored on a sacrifice fly by Perales.
Another Highlassie run scored in the third. Sophie Wideman walked and Emeri Eubanks singled. Both runners advanced on a sacrifice fly by Lantigua. Wideman then scored on a ground out by Alexander.
Cisco got on the board with two runs in the top of the fifth inning. Destiny DeLeon and Amanda Contreras both singled. Both runners advanced on a McLennan throwing error. DeLeon scored on a passed ball and Dionne Pierre walked. Pierre stole second and Contreras stole home.
McLennan responded with two runs in the bottom of the fifth. Eubanks hit a solo homer to dead centerfield. Lantigua then singled and scored on a triple by Brooke Arnold.
The Highlassies added another run in the sixth as Perales walked, moved to second on a single by Richards, advanced to third on a fly out by Wideman and scored on a fly out by Eubanks.
The Lady Wranglers rounded out the scoring with four runs in the top of the seventh. DeLeon singled, stole second and third, and scored on a fly out by Contreras. Ileana Ortega was hit by the pitch, Pierre walked and Trinity Dudley was hit by the pitch. Blanca Perez and Miikail Ragland came in to run for Ortega and Dudley, respectively. Taylor Epperson walked to score Perez. Pinch hitter Robin Rojas then singled to score Pierre and Ragland.
McLennan needed an extra inning to defeat Cisco 3-2 in game two with Torres getting the win.
The Highlassies scored two in the bottom of the fourth. Lantigua and Destiny Guerra both reached on errors. Rebeca Fajardo followed with a single to score Lantigua. Guerra and Fajardo advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Charley Avery. Morkisch then singled to score Guerra.
Cisco's first run came in the top of the sixth as Contreras doubled and scored on a single by Yamilex Valdez.
The Lady Wranglers tied the game with a run in the top of the seventh. Rojas doubled and was replaced by Ragland as the runner. Everly Carey then singled to score Ragland.
McLennan sealed the win with a walk-off in the bottom of the eighth. Lantigua singled and moved to second on a sacrifice by Guerra. Alexander singled and was replaced by Avery to run. Avery stole second and Morkisch walked to load the bases. Perales then singled to score Lantigua and end the game.
The Highlassies return to action Monday, traveling to Brenham to face Blinn in a 2 p.m. doubleheader.
