McLennan Softball sweeps Weatherford
The McLennan Highlassies picked up another conference doubleheader sweep on the road today in Weatherford.
McLennan dominated game one, picking up an 11-4 victory. Emily Klanika got the win in the circle, recording 10 strikeouts in seven innings of work.
McLennan jumped out to an early lead with two runs in the top of the first as Kaelin Morkisch singled and scored on a Kaitlin Richards home run.
The Highlassies broke the game open with six runs in the top of the third. Morkisch singled and scored on another Richards home run. Sophie Wideman followed with a solo shot. Emeri Eubanks and Arianna Perales both walked, and Destiny Guerra was safe on an error to load the bases. Rebeca Fajardo followed with a single to score Eubanks and Perales. Genisa Marrero-Carter then singled to score Guerra.
Weatherford got on the board with two runs in the bottom of the third as Amanda Vallejo reached on an error and scored on a Marisa Cruz home run.
Another Highlassie run scored in the fourth as Wideman doubled and scored on a single by Perales.
The Lady Coyotes added a run in the bottom of the fourth as Mattye Tyler doubled and scored on a single by Kristin Kamnick.
McLennan's final two runs came in the top of the sixth. Wideman doubled and Eubanks singled. Perales followed with a single to score Wideman. Guerra hit a fielder's choice putting Eubanks out at third. Fajardo then singled to score Perales.
Weatherford rounded out the scoring with Morgan Page's solo home run in the sixth.
Game two went to the Highlassies as well as they defeated the Lady Coyotes 4-3. Carla Torres got the win and Destiny Guerra picked up a save.
Once again, McLennan jumped out to an early lead scoring three runs in the first. Morkisch singled and Lindy Alexander drew a walk. Wideman singled to score Morkisch. Eubanks then reached on an error, bringing Alexander in to score. Wideman then scored on a throw as Olivia Lantigua singled.
The Highlassies added a run in the fourth as Brooke Arnold tripled and stole home.
Weatherford scored a run in the bottom of the fourth. Tyler and Kamnick both singled. Sydney Everhart then singled to score Tyler.
The Lady Coyotes added a run in the fifth as Page singled and scored on a double by Stephanie Jimenez.
Weatherford trimmed the McLennan lead to one with a run in the sixth. Kamnick doubled and Vallejo drew a walk. Cruz then singled to score Kamnick.
The Lady Coyotes had a chance to tie the game in the bottom of the seventh. Jimenez singled to put the tying run on first with one out. Tyler followed, hitting into a 1-6-3 double play to end the game.
McLennan returns to action Wednesday at Bosque River Ballpark, hosting Vernon for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
