Softball wins one, loses one on final day at Scrap Yard
McLennan Softball opened day two of the San Jacinto Round Robin Tournament in Conroe with a 9-1 loss to Team Japan. Carla Torres took the loss in the circle. The Highlassies recorded three hits in the contest with Kaitlin Richards' solo home run in the fourth being the only McLennan run scored. Lindy Alexander and Arianna Perales also picked up a hit each.
The Highlassies bounced back to get a 9-1 run-rule win over Galveston in the afternoon with Emily Klanika in the circle.
McLennan scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning as Perales singled and scored on a Richards home run.
The Highlassies added four runs in the second. Brooke Arnold led off with a double and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by Destiny Sanchez. Avery drew a walk, and Arnold scored on a fielder's choice by Morkisch. Perales then singled to score Avery and Morkisch. Perales moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on a ground out by Richards.
Galveston's only run came in the top of the fourth as Kayleigh Deakle walked and scored on a double by Kristen Meyer.
McLennan secured the run rule with three runs in the bottom of the fifth. Alexander and Arnold both singled, and Sanchez was hit by the pitch to load the bases. Avery singled to score Alexander and Arnold. Morkisch then singled to score Sanchez.
McLennan travel to Louisiana Friday to face Bossier Parish in a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
