Highlassies sweep Ranger
The McLennan Highlassies swept Saturday's conference doubleheader with the Ranger Lady Rangers at Bosque River Ballpark.
The Highlassies defeated the Lady Rangers 11-5 in game one with Kayleigh Williams getting the win in the circle. Williams allowed three hits and struck out nine batters in seven innings.
McLennan began the scoring with two runs in the bottom of the first. Dariann Resendez drew a lead-off walk and Marisa Flores singled. Both runners scored on a double by Theresa Gonzales.
Ranger scored one run in the second. Shelby Neatherlin was safe at first and advanced to second on a Highlassie error. Neatherlin then came around to score on another error.
The Highlassies added a run in the bottom of the second as Andrea Gonzales singled, moved to second on the walk of Resendez, advanced to third on a bunt by Flores and scored on an overthrow.
The Lady Rangers took the lead with three runs in the fourth. Madi Stark drew a lead-off walk, but was out at second on a fielder's choice by Payton Tisdale. Tisdale moved to second on a passed ball. Neatherlin was safe at first and moved to second on an error, bringing Tisdale in to score. Madi Stark followed with a double to score Neatherlin. Stark then moved to third on a passed ball and scored on a fly out by Macey Marino.
McLennan took the lead with five runs in the fifth. Elizabeth Svienty and Kayleigh Williams both singled. Both runners advanced on a ground out by Makayla Hernandez. Angelina Camacho singled to score Svienty, and Andrea Gonzales singled to score Williams. Resendez followed with a bunt single, scoring Camacho. Flores hit a fielder's choice, putting Andrea Gonzales out at the plate. Theresa Gonzales then doubled to score Resendez and Flores.
The Highlassies' final three runs came in the sixth. Rachel Ripley drew a walk and Haley Webre singled. Mikayla Young followed with a single to score Ripley. Faith Aguilar singled to score Webre. Andrea Gonzales followed with a fielder's choice, putting Young out at third. Flores then singled to score Aguilar.
Ranger rounded out the scoring with Stark's solo home run in the top of the seventh.
McLennan defeated Ranger 6-1 in the nightcap with Chanlynn Turner getting the win in the circle.
Ranger's only run came in the top of the first. Abi Haston tripled and Madi Stark drew a walk. Payton Tisdale hit into a double play, allowing Haston to score.
The Highlassies took the lead with two runs in the bottom of the first. Resendez and Flores both singled and advanced on a ground out by Theresa Gonzales. Victoria Gonzales singled to score Resendez. Svienty then singled to score Flores.
McLennan scored three runs in the fifth. Theresa Gonzales singled and Victoria Gonzales was safe on a bunt. Both Gonzales sisters advanced on a passed ball. Svienty singled to score Theresa Gonzales. Serena Saldivar then singled to score Victoria Gonzales and Svienty.
The final Highlassie run came in the seventh as Resendez bunted, stole second and scored on a single by Theresa Gonzales.
