Highlassies sweep Grayson
The McLennan Highlassies swept their conference doubleheader with the Grayson Vikings in Sherman.
McLennan defeated Grayson 13-9 in game one with Vannessa Castro picking up the win in the circle.
The Lady Vikings began the scoring with three runs in the bottom of the first inning. Alexa Aguilar-Romero singled and Marlee Boyd drew a walk. Jessica Forrester was safe at first on a Highlassie error, bringing Aguilar-Romero in to score. Another Highlassie error put Jocelyn Ward safe on first and brought Boyd in to score. Forrester then scored on a fly out by Clarissa Peters.
The Highlassies took the lead with five runs in the top of the second. Makayla Hernandez doubled, Andrea Gonzales singled and Elizabeth Svienty walked to load the bases. Angelina Camacho followed with a single to score Hernandez. Dariann Resendez singled to score Andrea Gonzales, and Svienty scored on a single by Marisa Flores. Theresa Gonzales followed with a single, scoring Camacho. Resendez then came in to score on a single by Victoria Gonzales.
Grayson added a run in the second as Chelsea Whitlock doubled and scored on a double by Logan Pennartz.
The Vikings took the lead with two runs in the third. Forrester drew a walk and Peters singled. Aguilar also singled, loading the bases. Back-to-back walks of Taylor Landrum and Pennartz brought Forrester and Peters in to score.
Grayson added another two runs in the fourth as Forrester walked and scored on a home run by Ward.
The Vikings increased the lead to 9-5 with a run in the fifth. Pennartz and McKenzie Krueger both singled. Forrester walked to load the bases. Pennartz then scored as Ward was hit by the pitch.
McLennan added two runs in the sixth. Camacho led off with a double and Resendez singled. Flores followed with a single, scoring Camacho. Resendez was thrown out at third. Theresa and Victoria Gonzales both singled. Flores was thrown out at home. Kayleigh Williams singled and Hernandez drew a walk, bringing Theresa Gonzales in to score.
The Highlassies sealed the win with six runs in the top of the seventh inning. Svienty singled, Camacho walked and Resendez was safe on a Grayson error to load the bases. Flores singled to score Svienty. Theresa Gonzales drew a walk, scoring Camacho. Victoria Gonzales followed with a double to score Resendez and Flores. Williams singled to score Theresa Gonzales, and Victoria Gonzales scored on a single by Hernandez.
McLennan shut out Grayson in game two with Chanlynn Turner picking up the 9-0 five-inning win in the circle.
The Highlassies scored four runs in the first. Resendez led off with a bunt single. Marisa Flores and Theresa Gonzales both singled, bringing Resendez in to score. Victoria Gonzales followed with a single to score Flores. Theresa Gonzales scored on a single by Kayleigh Williams. Hernandez was hit by the pitch, loading the bases. Andrea Gonzales then drew a walk, bringing Victoria Gonzales in to score.
McLennan added four more runs in the second. Resendez singled but was out at second on a fielder's choice by Flores. Theresa Gonzales followed with a double. Victoria Gonzales doubled, bringing Flores and Theresa Gonzales in to score. Hernandez singled and Andrea Gonzales was safe at first on a Grayson error, bringing Victoria Gonzales in to score.
The final Highlassie run came in the top of the fourth as Victoria Gonzales doubled and scored on a single by Williams.
