The McLennan Highlassies and Temple Lady Leopards split today's conference doubleheader at Bosque River Ballpark.
Game one was a pitchers' duel with Temple defeating McLennan 2-0. Kayleigh Williams took the loss in the circle, recording 14 strikeouts in 11 innings of work.
The game was scoreless for 10 innings. Both of Temple's runs came in the top of the 11th inning. Sara Ralston was safe at first on a Highlassie error and Stephanie Marmolejo singled. Jacquelin Chapa followed with a double to score Ralston and Marmolejo.
McLennan bounced back to defeat Temple 3-2 in the nightcap. Vannessa Castro got the win in the circle.
The Lady Leopards began the scoring with two runs in the top of the first. Addie Vayas singled and Ralston doubled. Vayas scored on a Highlassie error and Ralston scored on a triple by Marmolejo.
The Highlassies tied the game with two runs in the bottom of the sixth. Elizabeth Svienty doubled, Dariann Resendez walked and Marisa Flores singled to load the bases. Svienty and Resendez both scored on a single by Theresa Gonzales.
McLennan's winning run came in the bottom of the eighth. Makayla Hernandez and Williams were both safe on two Temple errors. Andrea Gonzales bunted to load the bases. Hernandez then scored on another error.
