Highlassies sweep Weatherford
The McLennan Highlassies swept today's conference doubleheader with the Weatherford Lady Coyotes at Bosque River Ballpark. The wins move the Highlassies to 17-5 overall and 4-0 in conference play.
The Highlassies shut out the Lady Coyotes 10-0 in game one. Kayleigh Williams picked up the win in the circle, allowing one hit and recording six strikeouts in six innings of work.
McLennan got on the board with two runs in the bottom of the third. Dariann Resendez singled and moved to second on a ground out by Marisa Flores. Theresa Gonzales followed with an in-the-park home run.
The Highlassies added four runs in the fourth. Elizabeth Svienty and Resendez drew a walks. Flores was safe at first on a Weatherford error, loading the bases. Theresa Gonzales followed with a single, scoring Svienty and Resendez. Serena Saldivar also drew a walk. Victoria Gonzales then singled to score Flores and Theresa Gonzales.
McLennan sealed the run-rule with four runs in the sixth. Resendez was hit by the pitch, Flores singled and Theresa Gonzales was hit by the pitch, loading the bases. Victoria Gonzales followed with an in-the-park grand slam to end the game.
The Highlassies defeated Weatherford 10-5 in the nightcap. Williams got the win in relief of Chanlynn Turner.
Weatherford began the scoring with two runs in the top of the first. Macie Perrin drew a walk but was out on fielder's choice by Maddison Graham. Maddison Hightower followed with a double and Ashlyn Monroe walked to load the bases. Jessica Torrez was then safe at first on an error, bringing Graham and Hightower in to score.
The Highlassies added a run in the fifth as Victoria Gonzales doubled, moved to third on a Saldivar bunt and scored on a fielder's choice by Andrea Gonzales.
Weatherford tied the game with two runs in the sixth. Lyndra Fenald drew a walk and was replaced by pinch runner Haley Mathis. Morgan Rackel was safe at first on a bunt. Graham then singled, loading the bases. Hightower followed with a single to score Mathis and Rackel.
