Highlanders finish in fifth place at Andrews
The McLennan Highlanders battled the strong West Texas winds to open the 2019 season with a fifth-place finish at the Andrews Collegiate/Amateur Invitational held at the Andrews County Club in Andrews, Texas. The Highlanders shot 287-280 – 567 during the two-day event.
Midland finished in first place with 272-279 – 542 followed by Odessa in second with 268-290 – 558 and Western Texas in third with 273-286 – 559. Wayland Baptist finished in fourth place with 278-285 – 563 and University of Texas Permian Basin was sixth with 284-291 – 575.
Sophomore Mason Mikeska shot 73-67 – 140 to lead the Highlanders and finish tied for ninth place.
Other McLennan scores: sophomore Caden Honea, tied for 12th, 71-70 – 141; freshman Hayes Hamilton, tied for 18th, 72-72 – 144; sophomore Will Fore, tied for 18th, 71-73 – 144; Holden Hamilton, tied for 27th, 74-72 – 146; and freshman Ulrik Joergensen, tied for 27th, 75-71 – 146.
