Highlanders rout OLLU JV
The McLennan Highlanders closed out the non-conference portion of their schedule with a 110-73 thumping of the Our Lady of the Lake JV at The Highlands.
The Saints were on fire from the 3-point line, scoring the first 12 points from behind the arc to lead 12-11 with 16:27 to play in the first half. McLennan used a 6-0 run over the next minute to take the 17-12 lead. The Highlanders led by six, 21-15, with 12:44 to go McLennan pulled away with a 9-0 run, including four points from Frederick Rogers, III, to push the lead to 15, 30-15, midway through the half. OLLU rallied down the stretch, pulling within six but McLennan extended the lead back to 12 at the break, 48-36.
The Highlanders were rollin to start the second half. The Saints cut the lead to eight early but another McLennan run, this one of the 10-0 variety, increased the lead to 18, 60-42. Our Lady of the Lake was able to pull within 12 several times throughout the half but the Highlanders were able to hold off the rallies with strong shooting from Ari Gooch, Rogers, Evan Chatman and Joseph Mayberry.
Mayberry led the Highlanders with 18 points and Rogers III added 16. Gooch scored 14 while Mayberry and Chatman added 13 each. John McQueen rounded out the scorer in double figures with 11.
