The McLennan Highlanders completed the non-conference season with a 97-77 victory over Tribulation Prep this afternoon at The Highlands.
It was a fast tempo, low scoring first half between the two squads. Caleb Barrett began the scoring with a bucket for Tribulation Prep but the Highlanders quickly took over, using a 9-0 run by Nick Shogbonyo and Mason Lockhart to go ahead 9-2. McLennan continued to push and extended the lea to 10, 18-8 with 9:17 to go in the half. Tribulation Prep stepped up on the offensive end of the court and cut the lead to two, 22-20, with just under seven minutes remaining in the first half. The Highlanders responded with another 9-0 run to lead 31-22 with 4:42 on the clock. McLennan led by five, 39-34 with a minute and a half to play and added baskets from Daylon Dickerson and Shogbonyo in the final seconds to push the lead to nine at halftime, 43-34.
McLennan began to create some distance early in the second half behind strong shooting from Shogbonyo, who scored 16 consecutive points for the Highlanders. McLennan increased its lead to 15 but a small rally by Tribulation cut it to 10 with 7:52, remaining in the game, 70-60. The Highlanders broke the game open with a 10-0 run over the next two minutes, and Tribulation Prep was unable to recover.
Nick Shogbonyo led the way for McLennan with 35 points, and Mason Lockhart added 17. Daylon Dickerson and Cameron Crockett scored 11 and 10, respectively.
