Highlanders thump Vikings
The McLennan Highlanders defeated the Grayson Vikings 113-100 this afternoon in a high-scoring game. The game appeared much like a 3-point contest as the two teams combined to hit 33 shots from beyond the arc.
It was an exciting first half between the Highlanders and Vikings. A Demarcus Fisher dunk began the scoring for the Vikings. McLennan quickly tied the game with a pair of free throws by Cameron Copeland. The Highlanders took the lead with a Lorenzo Anderson floater but Grayson responded with a Braeson Barr-Richardson 3-pointer. McLennan took control of the game with an 8-0 run and extended the lead to 10 at 20-10 with 13:22 to play in the first half. Grayson came roaring back with strong 3-point shooting from Barr-Richardson, Kemonte Dowdy and D.J. Thomas. The Vikings made 10 shots from 3-point range in the half to keep themselves in the game. The game would be tied at 33 with 7:40 to go in the first half. McLennan pulled away once again, using runs of 6-0 and 10-0, but the Vikings rallied to cut the lead to for at the half, 54-50.
The Highlanders took control of the game early in the second half, opening on a 12-2 run. McLennan kept the Vikings at arm's length throughout the half as they cruised to the victory.
Cameron Copeland led the Highlanders with 34 points. Rayquan Brown and Lorenzo Anderson added 21 and 20, respectively. Akili Vining scored 17 and Chris Pryor chipped in 10.
