Highlanders ward off late Collin run
The McLennan Highlanders warded off a late run by the Collin Cougars to claim the 73-64 on the road this afternoon in Plano.
Collin began the scoring with a Nighael Ceaser but McLennan quickly tied the game at two with a Tre Thomas jumper. A Josh Miller three-pointer put the Cougars up 5-2 but that would be Collin's only lead of the contest. Lorenzo Anderson drained a 3-pointer from the corner to tie the game and start a 10-0 run to take control of the game. The Highlanders led 12-5 with 13:44 to play in the first half. Collin rallied to trim the lead to two, 14-12, midway through the half but McLennan pulled away once again. The Highlanders led by as many as 22 down the stretch and held the 38-22 advantage at the break.
McLennan extended the lead to 20 early in the second half and held the 62-45 lead with seven minutes remaining in the game. Collin wasn't going down without a fight. The Cougars rallied and trimmed the Highlander lead to seven on another Miller 3-pointer with 41 seconds to play. Chris Pryor added a pair of free throws in the final seconds to seal the win.
Lorenzo Anderson led the Highlanders with 17 points and Tre Thomas chipped in 15. Rodrique Massenat and Cameron Copeland scored 14 points each.
