McLennan cruises past DFW Prep
The McLennan Highlanders traveled to Hillsboro this afternoon to face the DFW Prep Ballhogs on the opening day of the Joe White Classic hosted by Hill College. The Ballhogs proved to be no match for the Highlanders as McLennan picked up a 50-point victory, 111-61.
Both teams started slow and it was a low-scoring affair through the first 10 minutes of play. The Ballhogs held the 7-6 lead with 12:46 to play in the first half. A Jimmie Kelly 3-pointer from the corner ignited a McLennan run that broke the game open. The Highlanders' 26-0 run featured steals by Xavier Armstead and Kelly, and nothing-but-net behind the arc shots by Mike Adewunmi, Garrett Shaw and Kelly. The run gave McLennan the 32-7 lead with 5:50 to go and the Highlanders extended it to 49-15 at the half.
McLennan opened the second half on a 9-0 run. The lop-sided score allowed many of the Highlander non-starters to see playing time as the squad cruised to another easy victory.
Jordan Skipper-Brown led McLennan with 22 points. Mike Adewunmi and Xavier Armstead scored 17 and 15 points, respectively, while Garrett Shaw added 14. Jimmie Kelly and Casey Armour scored 12 points each.
The Highlanders will face Strength in Motion at 3 p.m. tomorrow on the final day of the Joe White Classic at Hill College.
