Highlanders & Eagles split
The McLennan Highlanders and Northeast Texas Eagles split a doubleheader today at Bosque River Ballpark.
Northeast Texas took game one 9-4 with Alex Wallace taking the loss on the mound for the Highlanders.
The Eagles stored two in the top of the first. Boston Seahorn reached on an error. Jonathan Gonzales also reached on an error, allowing Seahorn to score. Luke Nohinek then doubled to score Gonzales.
The Highlanders took the lead with three runs in the bottom of the first. Sherman Johnson singled and Spencer Butt walked. Marcus Smith followed with the three-run homer.
Northeast Texas tied the game with a run in the third. Seahorn walked and Luke Regas singled, both advancing on a sac bunt by Ayden Terry. Seahorn then scored on a ground out by Gonzales.
McLennan regained the lead with a run in the fourth. Cage McCloud walked and advanced on a ground out by Owen Smith. Johnson then singled to score McCloud.
The Eagles went back on top with three runs in the fifth. Seahorn was hit by the pitch and Regas doubled. Gonzales singled to score Seahorn, and Regas scored on a sac bunt by Nohinek. Braden Duff then singled to score Gonzales.
The final three Northeast Texas runs came in the top of the seventh. Terry walked and Gonzales singled. Nohinek also singled, loading the bases. A fielder's choice by Duff put Terry out at the plate. Jake Farris doubled to score all three runners.
McLennan bounced back to get the 11-3 run-rule victory in the second game with Jonah Conradt getting the win on the mound.
The Highlanders began the scoring with three runs in the second inning. Daniel Harden doubled and AJ Goytia single. Harden scored on a sac fly by McClane Helton. Deiten Lachance then doubled to score Goytia. Lachance was caught stealing, and McCloud followed with a solo home run.
The Eagles got on the board with a run in the third. Seahorn singled and Regas walked. Terry hit into a double play that put Regas out at second. Nohinek then singled to score Seahorn.
McLennan added a un in the fourth as Johnson singled, advance on a balk, moved to third on a ground out by Butt and scored on a sac fly by Marcus Smith.
Three more Highlander runs scored in the fourth. Goytia singled and Helton was hit by the pitch. Lachance followed with the three-run homer.
Northeast Texas added two in the fifth as Seahorn walked and scored on Regas' home run.
Another McLennan runs scored on Helton's home run in the sixth.
The Highlanders sealed the run rule with three runs in the bottom of the seventh. Harden, Helton and Lachance all singled. McCloud then doubled to clear the bases and end the game.
