Highlanders sweep Rebels
The 20th-ranked McLennan Highlanders swept the Hill Rebels this afternoon at Bosque River Ballpark.
The Highlanders picked up the 13-3 run-rule victory in six innings of the opener with Alex Wallace getting the win on the mound.
McLennan score one run in the bottom of the first as Sherman Johnson doubled and scored on a single by Spencer Butt.
The Highlanders added four runs in the second. Cage McCloud walked, Owen Smith was hit by the pitch and Johnson singled. McCloud scored on an error, and Butt singled to score Owen Smith. Johnson stole home and AJ Goytia was hit by the pitch, scoring Butt.
Hill got on the board with one run in the third. Bryce Deason was hit by the pitch and stole second. Lane Walton then singled to score Deason.
Another Rebel run scored in the fourth on Samuel York's home run.
Hill's final run came in the top of the fifth. Dylan Martinez singled and stole second. Deason singled and Aiden Hatton was hit by the pitch. Martinez then scored on a passed ball.
McLennan scored six runs in the bottom of the fifth. Cage McCloud led off with a solo home run. Johnson was hit by the pitch and Butt doubled. Marcus Smith singled, scoring both runners. Daniel Harden singled, and Goytia doubled to score both runners. Deiten Lachance then singled to score Goytia.
The Highlanders secured the run rule with two runs in the sixth. Owen Smith doubled and Marcus Smith walked. Owen Smith scored on a wild pitch. Marcus Smith the advanced on a balk, and Harden walked. Marcus Smith then scored on another wild pitch to end the game.
In game two, McLennan defeated Hill 11-10 with Griffin Lewis getting the win and Cade Waibel picking up the save.
The Rebels began the scoring with a run in the first. Walton singled and advanced on a wild pitch. York and Hatton drew back-to-back walks. Walton then scored on a line out by Deason.
The Highlanders tied the game with a run in the bottom of the inning as Johnson triple and scored on a sac fly by Butt.
Hill took the lead wit a run in the third as Hatton walked and score on a double by Deason.
McLennan scored five in the bottom or the third to take the lead. Harden led off with a solo home run. Goytia doubled and McClane Helton walked, both advancing on a sac bunt by Lachance. McCloud and Owen Smith both walked, scoring Goytia, and Johnson was hit by the pitch to score Helton. A fielder's choice by Butt brought McCloud in to score and put Johnson out at second. Owen Smith then scored on a balk.
Th Rebels scored one in the fourth. Poenitzsch walked and Viggo Lopez singled. A fielder's choice by Layden Sepulvado brought Poenitzsch in to score.
The Highlanders responded with three runs in the bottom of the inning. Goytia hit a solo home run. Helton singled and Lachance doubled. McCloud grounded out to score Helton. Owen Smith then doubled to score Lachance.
Another Hill run scored in the fifth. York walked, advanced on an error, moved to third on a passed ball and scored on a sacrifice fly by Deason.
McLennan tacked on two runs in the bottom of the fifth as Butt single and scored on Marcus Smith's home run.
The Rebels narrowed the Highlanders' lead with four runs in the sixth. Martinez and Poenitzsch both singled. Walton reached on an error, scoring Walton, and York singled. Hatton then walked to score Poenitzsch, and Deason singled to score York.
Hill added another run in the eighth. Hatton was hit by the pitch and Deason singled. Tanner Cooper then singled to score Hatton.
The final Rebel run came in the top of the ninth. Lopez and Walton both singled. York then singled to score Lopez.
