Highlanders sweep Thunderbirds
The McLennan Highlanders closed out a three-game series sweep of conference foe New Mexico with a 4-2 win over the Thunderbirds this afternoon at Bosque River Ballpark. Owen Egan picked up the win on the mound for McLennan.
The Highlanders jumped out to the early lead with three runs in the second inning. Deiten Lachance and McClane Helton both singled, and Marcus Smith walked to load the bases. Lachance scored on the bases-loaded balk. Sherman Johnson then reached on an error, scoring Helton and Smith.
New Mexico scored one with Jeter Battles' home run to lead off the fifth.
McLennan added a run in the sixth. Spencer Butt singled and advanced on an error. Cage McCloud and Lachance both walked. Owen Smith then walked, scoring Butt.
The final Thunderbird run came in the top of the ninth as Felix Rodriguez doubled, stole second and scored on single by Battles.
