Highlanders take two from Whitecaps
McLennan got the 12-1 win over Galveston in game one of the day with Alex Wallace getting the start and the win on the mound.
The Highlanders scored a run in the bottom of the first. Owen Smith and Daniel Harden both singled, and Cage McCloud walked, loading the bases. Jackson Irons also walked, bringing Smith in to score.
Another McLennan run scored in the third as Harden doubled, stole third and scored on a sacrifice fly by Ty Waid.
Galveston's only run came in the top of the fifth. Ashton Beaird and Nic Paparella both singled. Saul Soto then singled to score Beaird.
The Highlanders responded with three runs in the bottom of the inning. Harden and Deiten Lachance both singled. Harden scored on a another sacrifice fly by Waid. McCloud singled, and Marcus Smith doubled, scoring Lachance and McCloud.
McLennan rounded out the scoring with seven runs in the bottom of the sixth. Owen Smith walked and Lachance singled, both scoring on a triple by Waid. McCloud also tripled, scoring Waid. McCloud scored on a wild pitch. Irons singled, and Marcus Smith walked. Pinch hitter Brody Chyr followed with a triple, scoring both runners. Brecken Menuet then singled to score Chyr.
In the rubber match, the Highlanders defeated the Whitecaps 10-5 with Logan Harris getting the win on the mound.
McLennan scored one in the first as Owen Smith tripled and score on Harden's double.
Another Highlander run scored in third as Harden tripled and scored on a ground out by Waid.
McLennan exploded for five runs in the fifth. Own Smith singled, Harden walked, and Lachance singled, loading the bases. Waid followed with a grand slam. McCloud and Irons were both hit by the pitch, and Walker Freeman walked to load the bases. AJ Goytia also walked, scoring McCloud.
Two more Highlander runs scored in the sixth. Lachance was hit by the pitch and Waid doubled. Owen Egan walked, loading the bases. Freeman then doubled to score Lachance and Waid.
The Whitecaps first run came in the top of the seventh. Zac Daigre singled but was out at second on a fielder's choice by Jacob Bulcroft. Soto was hit by the pitch. Paparella singled, and Bulcroft scored on an error.
McLennan's final run came in the bottom of the seventh. McClane Helton walked and Owen Smith reached on an error. Harden hit into a double play, putting Smith out at second. Lachance then doubled to score Helton.
Galveston rounded out the scoring with four runs in the top of the ninth. Soto singled and Paparella followed with a two-run homer. Colby DeMars and Colin Carrejo both singled. Cameran Christ walked, loading the bases. Maddox Medrano grounded out, scoring DeMars. Daigre was hit by the pitch, and Correjo scored on a ground out by Bulcroft.
