Highlanders fall to Georgia Highlands
The McLennan Highlanders fell to the Georgia Highlands Chargers 5-1 in the opening game of the JUCO World Series in Grand Junction, Colorado.
Georgia Highlands' Ryan Wideman began the scoring with a lead-off home run in the bottom of the fourth.
McLennan responded with a lead-off homer by Sam Flores in the top of the fifth to tie the game.
The Chargers took the lead with a run in the bottom of the fifth as Ali Banks walked and scored on a double by Luke Orfi.
Another Georgia Highlands run scored in the sixth. Wideman reached on an error and stole second. Will Cawthon walked, and Wideman was out at third on a fielder's choice by Barrett Eldridge. Ryan Martin then singled to score Cawthon.
The Chargers added two runs in the eighth. Wideman le off with a single and stole second. Cawthon singled and Eldridge walked to load the bases. Grayson Godbee also walked, scoring Wideman. Banks then singled to score Cawthon.
