Highlanders sweep Vikings
The McLennan Highlanders completed the conference-series sweep of Grayson with a pair of victories over the Vikings this afternoon at Bosque River Ballpark.
Game one was a pitcher's duel with Lucas Kelly picking up the 1-0 win on the mound for the Highlanders.
McLennan's only run came in the bottom of the second inning. Sam Flores was hit by the pitch to lead off the inning. Brodey Williams singled, and Flores scored on a sacrifice fly by Walker Freeman.
Game two was an 11-inning affair with the Highlanders getting a 6-5 walk-off win.
McLennan scored two runs in the second inning as Deiten Lachance singled and scored on Flores' home run.
Two more Highlander runs scored in the third. Brecken Menuet singled, stole second and scored on a double by Mac Rose. Aidan Kuni then singled to score Rose.
McLennan extended the lead to five with a run in the bottom of the sixth. Kuni was hit by the pitch, advanced to second on a balk and moved to third on a ground out by Lachance. Flores then singled to score Kuni.
Grayson got on the board with a run in the eighth. Sloan Barrett singled, stole second and moved to third on a wild pitch before scoring on a sacrifice fly by Walker Polk.
The Vikings tied the game with four runs in the top of the ninth. Mason Ruiz walked and scored on a Trey Oblas home run. Cylan Madden singled and advanced on a passed ball. Jacob Lang then singled to score Madden. Jackson Harrell came in as the pinch runner for Lang, and Barrett singled. Harrell then scored on a sacrifice bunt by John Maldonado.
The Highlanders sealed the win with a run in the bottom of the 11th inning. Lachance walked to lead off the inning. Flores was hit by the pitch, and Gavyn Jones replaced Lachance as the runner at second. Xander McAfee singled to load the bases, and Jones scored on a sacrifice fly by Marcus Smith to end the game.
