Seven Highlanders selected for All-Star games
Seven Highlanders will represent McLennan this weekend at the Texas-New Mexico Junior College Baseball Coaches Association All-Star Weekend activities at Dallas Baptist University. Sophomores Aidan Kuni, Trenton Shaw, Sam Flores, Xander McAfee, Stefan Stahl, Blake Hansen and Connor Zaruba were all selected for the two-day event.
Kuni, a utility player from Flower Mound, appeared in 42 games last season. He has the second-highest batting average at .352 average and led the team with five home runs and 40 RBI. He earned second-team all-conference honors and was a second-team all-academic selection.
Shaw, left-handed pitcher from DeSoto, made 10 appearances on the mound with a 4.26 ERA and 28 strikeouts.
Flores, an infielder from Lufkin, appeared in 31 games, recording a .211 batting average with nine RBI. He was a second-team all-academic selection.
McAfee, an outfielder from Fort Worth, appeared in 38 games, recording a .318 batting average and was second on the team with 12 doubles and three home runs.
Stahl, a left-handed pitcher from Richardson, made 11 appearances on the mound. He recorded a 3-0 pitching record with a team-leading 1.62 ERA and was second on the team with 52 strikeouts. He earned first-team all-conference honors and was a first-team all-academic selection.
Hansen, an outfielder and left-handed pitcher from Katy, appeared in 42 games last season with a .323 average with three home runs and 42 RBI. He also notched a 3-2 pitching record with a 2.01 ERA and 53 strikeouts, and was a second-team all-conference selection.
Zaruba, a left-handed pitcher from Yoakum, made 14 appearances on the mound. He notched 6-2 record and with one save, a 2.77 ERA and 47 strikeouts.
