McLennan Baseball stays alive with win over Weatherford
The McLennan Highlanders stayed alive in the Region V Tournament with an 8-1 victory over the Weatherford Coyotes tonight. Gray Harrison picked up the win on the mound.
McLennan began the scoring with a run in the top of the first as Hunter Grimes walked, advanced around to third on a single by Cole Fontenelle and scored on a wild pitch.
The Highlanders added two runs in the second as Izzy Lopez doubled and scored on a Chase Brown home run.
Two more Highlander runs scored in the fourth. Chase Brown singled and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Grimes walked, and Ty Johnson followed with a double to score Brown and Grimes.
McLennan added two more runs in the top of the seventh. Johnson walked, Fontenelle singled and Katcher Halligan walked, loading the bases. Daniel Altman followed with a double, scoring Johnson and Fontenelle.
Weatherford's only run came in the bottom of the seventh. Eddie Calzoncit doubled and Chase Pendley singled. Austin Shook followed with a sacrifice fly to score Calzoncit.
The Highlanders rounded out the scoring with a run in the top of the ninth. Fontenelle singled and Halligan walked. Both runners advanced on a balk, and Fontenelle scored on an error.
McLennan continues through the elimination bracket and will face Grayson at 1 p.m. Monday.
