McLennan double dips Temple to complete series sweep
The McLennan Highlanders closed out the regular season today with two wins at Temple to complete the series sweep of the Leopards.
McLennan defeated Temple 4-2 in the first game with Brady Rose getting the win on the mound and Jack Williams picking up the save.
Temple began the scoring with run in the bottom of the third as Jackson Sioson doubled, moved to second on a single by Seth Stevenson and scored on a single by Travis Chestnut.
McLennan took the lead with three runs in the fourth. Miguel Santos led off with a single but was out at second on a fielder's choice by Blake Jackson. Garrett Martin and Mason Greer both reached on errors, bringing Jackson in to score. Martin scored on a sacrifice fly by Dominic Tamez. Alex Lopez then singled to score Greer.
The Highlanders added a run in the top of the sixth. Tamez and Lopez both singled. Tamez then scored on a Temple error.
Temple rounded out the scoring with a run in the bottom of the sixth. Ty Tilson and Sammy Diaz both reached on errors. Andre Jackson singled to load the bases. Max Puls then grounded into a double play, bringing Tilson in to score.
The Highlanders defeated the Leopards 5-2 in the nightcap to complete the series. Will Carsten picked up the win on the mound and Landon Dorman got the save.
McLennan scored one in the first as Marquis Jackson walked, stole second, advanced to third on a ground out by Ben Rosengard and scored on a double by Martin.
The Highlanders added a run in the third as Chase Brown doubled, moved to third on a single by Alex Lopez and scored on a Temple error.
Temple scored a run in the bottom of the third as Jacob Elizondo doubled, advance to third on a fly out by Jackson and scored on a wild pitch.
McLennan added a run in the fourth as Ravaughn Morgan singled, stole second and scored on an error.
Temple's final run came in the sixth. Puls singled and Robert Shaw walked. Puls moved to third on a fielder's choice by Clark Henry and stole home.
Another Highlander run scored in the seventh as Bard walked, moved to third on a single by Nick Pierce and scored on a single by Morgan.
McLennan rounded out the scoring with a run in the eighth. Rosengard bunted and Alex Lopez singled. Rosengard then stole third and scored on a single by Bard.
McLennan will host the NJCAA Region V Tournament beginning Friday at Bosque River Ballpark. The Highlanders will open the tournament facing either Clarendon or Odessa at 10 a.m.
