McLennan Highlanders top No. 18 Navarro
The McLennan Highlanders smashed the No. 18 Navarro Bulldogs 14-7 this afternoon in a non-conference battle at Bosque River Ballpark with Jack Hattrup getting the win on the mound.
Navarro struck early, scoring five runs in the top of the first. Cash Rugely was hit by the pitch to lead off the inning. Zac Vooletich and Alex Vergara both singled to load the bases. Rugely scored on a wild pitch, and Logan Letney followed with a single to score Vooletich and Vergara. Cal Stark was hit by the pitch, and Tyler Dickey singled to score Letney. Stark then scored on a ground out by Chad Ricker.
McLennan responded with four runs in the bottom of the inning. Miguel Santos walked and scored on Mason Greer's home run. Garrett Martin then singled and scored on a Dominic Tamez home run.
The Bulldogs final two runs in the fifth. Rugely doubled, moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on a ground out by Vergara. Letney followed with a solo home run.
The Highlanders took the lead with five runs in the bottom of the sixth. Blake Jackson singled and scored on a triple by Jaylen Williams. Ben Rosengard followed with a triple to score Williams. Santos was hit by the pitch and Greer double to score Rosengard. Martin then singled to score Santos and Greer.
Three more Highlander runs scored in the seventh. Rosengard doubled and scored on a triple by Santos. Santos scored on a wild pitch and Greer walked. Greer then stole second and scored on a Navarro error.
McLennan rounded out the scoring with two runs in the bottom of the eighth. Tamez led off with a single, moved to second on a wild pitch and scored on another Navarro error. Ravaughn Morgan then walked and scored on a double by Williams.
The Highlanders return to action Monday, hosting No. 4 San Jacinto at 2 p.m. at Bosque River Ballpark.
