Highlanders stomp Bulldogs
The McLennan Highlanders shut out the Navarro Bulldogs 15-0 this afternoon in the opening game of the three-game weekend series. Connor Phillips got the win on the mound.
McLennan began the scoring with two runs in the bottom of the first inning. Jimmy Crooks walked, Caleb Balgaard singled and Garrett Martin was hit by the pitch to load the bases. Seth Morrow then singled to score Crooks and Balgaard.
The Highlanders added four runs in the third. Crooks singled and advanced to second on wild pitch. Brett Squires walked and both runners advanced on another wild pitch. Martin also walked, loading the bases. Morrow walked to score Crooks. Miguel Santos then singled to score Squires and Martin. Alex Lopez walked to reload the bases. Jalen Battles then reached on an error to score Morrow.
McLennan exploded four eight runs in the fourth inning. Balgaard walked but was out at second on a fielder's choice by Squires. Martin doubled to score Squires. Santos and Lopez both walked to load the bases. Jaylan Williams also walked, bringing Martin in to score. Battles then reached on an error, allowing Santos and Lopez to score. Crooks walked, loading the bases. Balgaard walked to score Williams. Squires followed with a single to score Battles and Crooks. Martin walked to reload the bases. Morrow then walked to score Balgaard.
Balgaard's solo home run to lead off the bottom of the sixth rounded out the scoring.
McLennan and Navarro will complete the three-game series with a noon doubleheader Saturday in Corsicana.
