McLennan baseball complete series sweep of Angelina
The McLennan Highlanders picked up another pair of victories over the Angelina Roadrunners this afternoon in Lufkin to complete the four-game series sweep and remain undefeated on the season.
McLennan defeated Angelina 10-3 in the opening game with Brady Rose getting the win on the mound.
Angelina began the scoring with a run in the bottom of the first as Macrae Kendrick tripled and score on a McLennan error.
The Roadrunners added two runs in the second. Sawyre Thornhill tripled and scored on a wild pitch. Dylan Bourgeois then singled, moved to second on a wild pitch, stole third and scored on a passed ball.
McLennan's first run came in the fourth as Brett Squires doubled, moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on a single by Caleb Balgaard.
The Highlanders took the lead with six runs in the sixth. Garrett Martin doubled and Squires walked. A wild pitch brought Martin in to score and moved Squires to third. Alex Lopez then singled to score Squires. Miguel Santos singled, and Seth Morrow singled to score Lopez and Santos. Jimmy Crooks and Cole Moore both walked, loading the bases. Martin then reached safely on an error, allowing Morrow and Crooks to score.
McLennan's final two runs came in the top of the seventh. Balgaard singled and Ryan Neitsch was hit by the pitch. Both runners advanced on a passed ball, and Nick Pierce walked to load the bases. Crooks then tripled to score all three runners.
The Highlanders defeated the Roadrunners 4-2 in the nightcap with Riggs Threadgill picking up the win.
McLennan began the scoring with three runs in the top of the second. Squires doubled and Santos walked. Morrow followed with a doubled to score Squires, and Pierce singled to score Santos and Morrow.
The Highlanders added a run in the third as Moore doubled, moved to third on a fly out by Squires and scored on a passed ball.
Angelina's two runs came in the bottom of the fourth. Kendrick singled and moved to second on a passed ball. Thornhill then singled to score Kendrick. Joshua Youngblood also singled, bringing Thornhill in to score.
McLennan will compete in the San Jacinto Tournament Friday-Sunday in Houston.
