Highlanders sweep Navarro
The McLennan Highlanders swept today's doubleheader with the Navarro Bulldogs at a chilly Bosque River Ballpark to complete the three-game series sweep.
Alex DeLeon pitched a one-hit 6-0 shutout in game one for the Highlanders.
McLennan scored two runs in the third inning. Jalen Battles drew a lead-off walk, moved around to third on a pair of wild pitches and scored on a double by Cole Moore. Moore then scored on a triple by Garrett Martin.
The Highlanders added a run in the fourth as Brooks Embry walked, advanced to second on a wild pitch, moved to third on a ground out by Matthew Miles and scored on a wild pitch.
Two more Highlander runs score in the fourth. Jordan Yeatts, Moore and Thomas Santos all singled to load the bases. Yeatts scored on a single by Martin, and Moore scored on a sacrifice fly by Ryan Neitsch.
Yeatts' in-the-park home run in the sixth rounded out the scoring.
McLennan defeated Navarro 10-4 in the nightcap with Trevor Munsch getting the win on the mound.
Navarro began the scoring with two runs in the top of the first. Travis Washburn singled, Kyle Landers walked and Cash Rugely singled to load the bases. Washburn scored on an error, and Landers scored on a sacrifice fly by Jose Gonzalez Jr.
McLennan tied the game with two runs in the bottom of the second. Martin doubled and scored on a single by Neitsch. Neitsch then stole second, moved to third on a single by Brett Squires and stole home.
The Highlanders took the lead with three runs in the third. Battles doubled and Yeatts was safe on an error. Battles scored on a sacrifice fly by Moore, and Santos walked. Martin singled to score Yeatts, and Santos stole home.
McLennan increased the lead with a run in the fourth as Vince Ippoliti doubled, moved to third on a passed ball and scored on a double by Yeatts.
Another Highlander run scored in the fifth as Martin walked, stole second and came around to score on a wild pitch.
Navarro added a run in the sixth as Rugely walked, moved to second on a Highlander error, advanced to third on a fly out by Mason Holt and scored on a single by Stacey Bailey.
McLennan added two more runs in the sixth. Ippoliti singled, stole second and scored on a double by Battles. Battles moved to third on a fly out by Moore and scored on a ground out by Santos.
The final Highlander run scored in the seventh. Neitsch was safe at first and advance all the way to third on an error by the Bulldog leftfielder. Embry followed with a sacrifice fly to score Neitsch.
The Bulldogs rounded out the scoring with a run in the top of the ninth. Bailey and Jonathan Little both walked. Bailey then came in to score on a pair of passed balls.
McLennan will host Howard for a three-game series beginning at 2 p.m. Friday at Bosque River Ballpark.
