Highlanders clobber Grayson to stay alive in regional tournament

The No. 13 McLennan Highlanders opened the third day of the Region V Tournament with a 10-0 run-rule stomping of the Grayson Vikings to stave off elimination once again. Freshman Alex DeLeon got the five-inning shutout on the mound for the Highlanders.

McLennan scored two runs in the bottom of the first. Dylan Neuse led off with a triple and Josh Breaux drew a walk. Keaton Milford followed with a single, scoring Neuse, and Breaux scored on a passed ball.

The Highlanders added a run in the second as Neuse doubled and scored on another single by Milford.

Two more Highlander runs crossed the plate in the third. Aidan Shepardson and George Callil both singled. Brooks Embry followed with a single to score Shepardson, and Callil scored on another passed ball.

McLennan scored five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to secure the run-rule victory. Shepardson and Callil were both hit by the pitch, and Embry walked to load the bases. Breaux walked to score Shepardson, and Callil scored on sacrifice fly by Milford. Thomas Santos also walked, reloading the bases. Griffin Paxton's walk brought Embry in to score, and Breaux scored on a balk. Mitchell Caskey then singled to score Santos and end the game.
