Highlanders, Leopards split

The McLennan Highlanders and Temple Leopards split today's conference doubleheader in Temple.
Temple took game one 7-1 with Chris Glover taking the loss on the mound.
The Highlanders' only run came in the top of the first. Dimas Ojeda singled and Cory Voss drew a walk. Brendan Venter then doubled to score Ojeda.
Temple got on the board with four runs in the second. T.J. Giselbach was safe at first on a Highlander error. Mason Furlong followed with a home run over the left-field fence. Joshua Haese doubled, moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by Reed Carlton and scored on a single by Derek Ramos. Ramos advanced to second on a ground out by Coby Potvin and scored on a double by Anthony Cole.
The Leopards extended the lead to 5-1 with a run in the bottom of the third as Chase Goldwater singled, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Giselbach and scored on a single by Haese.
Temple added another run in the fourth as Cole walked, moved around to third on a single by Goldwater and scored on a wild pitch.
The Leopards' final run came in the fifth. Furlong singled and was replaced by pinch runner,Jaylon Brooks. Brooks moved around to third on a single by Haese and scored as Carlton hit into a double play.
The Highlanders bounced back to defeat Temple 15-4 in the nightcap with Hunter Spaeth getting the win. Venter led McLennan at the plate, going 3-4 with two home runs and five RBIs. Voss also went 3-4 with a home run and five RBIs. James Rudkin was 2-4 with a double and Ojeda was 2-5 with two RBIs. Noah McGowan was 2-5 with a double and two RBIs while Tucker Johnson was 2-4 with one RBI.
McLennan's doubleheader at Cisco has been pushed back a day. The Highlanders and Wranglers will now play at 1 p.m. Thursday in Cisco.
