Highlanders, Vikings split
The McLennan Highlanders and Grayson Vikings split Saturday's conference doubleheader at Bosque River Ballpark.
McLennan took game one 5-4 with Dustin Jourdan getting the win on the mound.
Grayson began the scoring with one run in the top of the second as Ray Henderson-Lozano doubled and scored on a triple by Victor DeJesus.
The Highlanders took the lead with two runs in the bottom of the second. Tucker Johnson walked and Brandon Grudzielanek singled. Johnson came in to score on a sacrifice bunt by Braxton Wilks. Grudzielanek then scored on a single by Mason George.
McLennan added one run in the third as Kirby McGuire doubled and scored on a single by Dimas Ojeda.
The Vikings scored one run in the fourth as Tanner DeVinny singled, moved to second on a single by Travis Wacker and scored on a Highlander error.
The Highlanders scored one run in the fifth as Will Fox reached first safely on an error, moved around to third on a single by McGuire and scored on a passed ball.
Grayson scored one run in the sixth. DeVinny walked, Henderson-Lozano singled and Wacker was hit by the pitch to load the bases. DeVinny then scored on a fly out by Mike Gill.
Grayson tied the game with one run in the top of the seventh. Cooper Coldiron was safe at first on an error but was out at second on a fielder's choice by Zack Files. Niko Buentello doubled and DeVinny was given the intentional walk to load the bases. Files then scored on a fly out by Henderson-Lozano.
McLennan sealed the win with a run in the bottom of the seventh. Fox and Ojeda were both safe on Grayson errors. James Rudkin then singled to score Fox and end the game.
The Vikings run-ruled the Highlanders 22-5 in the nightcap with Chris Glover taking the loss. Noah McGowan recorded a double and two RBIs. J.T. Stevenson hit a double that drove in a run. Ojeda and Stacy Heinatz both doubled, while Braxton Hollenshead hit a solo home run.
