Highlassies finish second at Texas Intercollegiate
The McLennan Highlassies opened the fall season with a second place finish at the Texas Intercollegiate hosted by Texas Wesleyan University at the par-72, 6,898-yard Hawks Creek Golf Club in Westworth Village, Texas.
Incarnate Word claimed the team championship with 319-305-297 – 921, followed by McLennan in second with 327-309-310 – 946. Texas A&M-Commerce, Angelo State and Texas Wesleyan finished in third with 321-315-317 – 953, 320-318-315 – 953 and 319-320-314 – 953, respectively.
Sophomore Caitlin Brown, a transfer from Dallas Baptist University, shot 76-73-77 – 226 to lead the Highlassies and finish in fourth place.
Other McLennan scores: freshman Tyler Morrison, tied for 20th, 84-79-77 – 240; freshman Makenna Davidson, tied for 26th, 82-81-79 – 242; freshman Alejandra Rodriguez, tied for 29th, 85-77-81 – 243; freshman Joely Henderson, tied for 32nd, 87-80-77 – 244; and freshman Madison Brooks, 49th, 85-91-89 – 265.
Other team scores: Redlands, sixth, 321-323-316 – 960; Wayland Baptist, seventh, 334-328-302 – 964; St. Thomas, eighth, 326-336-331 – 993; and St. Gregory's, ninth, 343-338-351 – 1,032.
McLennan and Redlands were the only two-year schools in the field. The Highlassies will compete in the Bob Hurley ORU Shootout on Sept. 26-27 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
