Highlassies come up short against Hill
The McLennan Highlassies fell to the Hill Lady Rebels 68-56.
Hill opened the game on an 8-0 run to take the early lead. Jaidyn Fontenette put the Highlassies on the board with 5:09 remaining in the first quarter and ignited an 10-0 run to put McLennan up 10-8 with 3:41 to go in the first. Hill recovered and held the 15-12 advantage going into the second. A 5-0 run to start the second put the Lacy Rebels up by eight, 20-12. A 3-pointer by Ahlura Lofton and a layup by Miannah Little trimmed the lead to three. Hill pulled away down the stretch, leading by as many 12 and holding the 38-28 lead at the break.
The Lady Rebels held the Highlassies at bay in the third quarter, and McLennan headed into the fourth still trailing by 10, 49-39. Hill pushed the lead to 14 midway through the final period but the Highlassies continued to fight. A 3-pointer from the top of the key by Lofton with 2:51 to play cut the lead to seven, 60-53, but that was as close as the McLennan could get.
Ahlura Lofton and Raija Todd led the way for the Highlassies with 12 points each. Miannah Little added 11 points. With the loss, the McLennan moves to 5-8 on the season and 4-5 in conference play.
McLennan returns to action Wednesday, traveling to Weatherford. Women's action begins at 5 p.m., followed by the men's game at 7 p.m.
