Highlassies fall to Grayson
In Saturday's early game, the McLennan Highlassies fell to the Grayson Lady Vikings.
Both teams started slow but found their rhythm after 3-pointers from Mele Kailahi for the Highlassies and Tailor Broussard for the Lady Vikings. McLennan took the early 5-3 lead on a jumper by Seynabou Thiam in the lane with 8 minutes to go in the first quarter. Grayson responded with an 8-0 run over the next minute and a half to build a six-point lead, 11-5. A Jaidyn Fontenette layup and a 3-pointer from Ny'Asia Goldman cut the Grayson lead to one, 11-10. The Lady Vikings would lead 15-13 after the first quarter. Grayson took control of the game in the second quarter, outscoring McLennan 18-6 in the period to take the 33-19 advantage at the break.
McLennan rallied in the third. The Highlassies opened the period on an 8-1 run to cut the lead to seven, 34-27 midway through the quarter. Grayson extended the lead to 12, 43-31, with 2:27 to play in the third quarter but the Highlassies continued to fight. McLennan ended the quarter on a 9-1 run including a pair of 3-pointers from Annya Moss and Mele Kailahi to trim the lead to four going to the fourth quarter, 44-40. Once again Grayson took control of the game. The Lady Vikings opened the fourth on a 10-1 run to put the game out of reach for McLennan.
Seynabou Thiam led the Highlassies with 13 points.
